Hi, my name is Pete, I have a 1965 spitfire that I have owned for a couple of years now. The engine, transmission and chassis were toast, it was after all a 1965 and most of the parts were original. Going to the internet I discovered PRI (Performance Research industies) After contacting Chris the owner we discussed what what can be done to improve the car within my budget.

Pete's Spit
I remember driving the car down to PRI thinking “man, I only need to make it 103.5 miles then my AAA will cover the tow from there on! Well as it turns out the tow was not necessary. I doubt she would have made the return trip! The tranny was growling like a she-bear and the rear end was singing like a diva, very tolerable if you used those little foam ear plugs as I did. The little engine that could was running a little warm and the ever-present scent of burning oil was wafting through the cockpit.

Chris met me at PRI on Saturday as I could not make it down there during his normal hours of operation, (how many people do you know that would do that?) “Hi, my name is Pete.” “Good to finally meet you,” he says. “I am Chris.” I remember thinking “He sort of looks like that actor on Warehouse 13.” I expected him to be taller! As I previously stated, we had a conversation, figured out what to do, struck a deal, and I headed home. My gal pal and I stopped at the local Mexican restaurant for some lunch and a celebratory margarita. After about 45 minutes, in walks Chris. “Hey Pete,” he says, “you forgot your paper work I’m glad I caught you before you got out of town.” Over the course of the next 3 months that became the pattern. Chris did what he needed to do to keep me happy (that isn’t always an easy task).

Flash forward to today. I work 2 miles from my home, not a long drive. When I awoke this morning it was raining out. What the heck, this wasn’t forecasted! So instead of putting on the hood (that’s the soft top to all non-British car owners) I made the decision to drive the old jeep into work. Lunchtime rolls around…the rain was gone, the sun was out. I was thinking, “I should run home and get my spit, you dummy why do that you will miss your lunch just to drive 2 miles, yes but the sun is out and, and, and come on lets do it.” I was arguing with myself. I am not sure who won or who lost that argument. Suffice it to say, I went home and traded the old jeep for my little sports car. As I thought about that this afternoon it occurred to me that I truly love driving that car, on the weekends, ten at night, I will jump in it and go for a drive. I look for excuses to go into town! I just love driving that car. I use to like driving that car and I use to always calculate my trips on my AAA coverage radius. I never took it when I had to be somewhere, and I never ever got on the interstate…that was a hair raising experience. Copared to before it is whole new experience. The car is QUICK! No issues merging on the freeway now, and it handles like its on rails! I wish I could properly brief you on everything it is that Chris and his crew did on my car but truthfully the list is pretty long. I know that after seeing all the really cool products in person and on all of the other cars at PRI my want list grew and I did however exceed my budget but man was it worth it! My little 65 has a new lease on a completely different life for the better! I don’t want to type it all out but what I got was the Stage one plus engine rebuild, Keihin quad carburetors (very cool) custom side exit exhaust system, front shocks with PRI’s awesome independent rear suspension kit, transmission and rear end replaced/rebuilt and geared taller for better hwy cruising, plus a million other little things. What I liked about Chris is when he would call me he would say “Hey, we have an issue.” (Never “you have a problem”.) “I found this and that and the other thing needs replacing. You have an old car here that needs the little things taken care od in order for the goodies to work proper like suspension bushings, u-joints, etc.. He gave me sound advice and in the end the car will be good for another 47 years. Plus building the car to this level eveything needs to be perfect for safety.

Engine Rebuild
I drive it every chance I get its that much fun now and with little regard to reliability worries. I now trust the car for any driving task no matter how long! The 200 + mile drive home from PRI was so much fun the thought of not making it never even entered my mind. I am not sure what kind of a recommendation this is, as it isn’t very technical but more of a personal experience. Was the work I had done cheap? No, but it was more than fair and of very high quality. I showed pictures of the engine compartment to my brother-in-law who is a retired mechanical engineer from GM. He is currently restoring and modifying a TR7 and his comment to me was, “Damn, Pete, this guy is a real professional. His work is immaculate!” That is pretty high praise in my book.

Thank you Chris, I truly am a very satisfied customer. Oh, and the follow-up you offer for questions and tips on how to care for my all new joy is over the top! Who does that anymore?

Sincerely,

Pete Hamelink

Chris;

I just wanted to touch base with you and say “Wow” – the new website looks great! The video of the “Rebel” that you feature is over the top!!! I do have to say though, after your last adjustments that her zero to sixty has improved to the low five’s!

Spitfire Exhaust

As you know, since my accident in the Benz, I have begun undertaking an electronics update to the Rebel – I hope to be able to upgrade the suspension with your IRS Kit and Race Axles prior to this years Triumphest, and the VTR Nationals… As tremendous a machine as you’ve built her to be, I’d love to show her off again, and wipe those silly smirks off of their faces once again!

Good luck, love the site, and of course, the great products and customer care!!! Hope to be ordering again real soon,

Steve Gold

Chris,

Although I received my Spitfire rear brake kit some time ago, I just opened the boxes today, and I have to say that you again came through with a well executed, high quality product. I’m most impressed. …Do you presently have an exhaust system available for the TR-6? A friend of mine is growing envious of the dual tipped number I got from you for my car, and now he wants something similar for his TR.

Regards,
Mark Burns

Hi,
I recently purchased an alternator conversion kit from you and I would like to complement you on your excellent job with putting the kit together. Everything fit perfectly and was an extremely straight forward conversion thanks to your labeling of the wiring…. I would again like to thank you for your well made and useful products.

Thank you,
Chris Klebon

Hi my name is robin mcmorran and I have a late 79 spit with rubber bumpers. Late last year I bought your performance shocks and I am most impressed…The intake manifold I have is a cannon I was thinking you might sell me one of your performance headers and I could make it fit. I work at a machine shop so I have all the facilities to make it work if you sell it to me.

Subject: Your advice
I have a seventy nine spit with a mk1 mk2 gt six engine. I would really like to make this car into a great car. I know this is going to take awhile but i need some type of starting point and i would like your advice. The carbs apparently need to be rebuilt and i dont know the condition of the interior of the engine except that it has good compression. Exhaust header could be redone as well as suspencion. Brakes im gonna have to wait because of the size problem. I would greatly appreciate your input because i have read the feed back and you seem to be a very knowledgable person when making these cars all they can be.

Thanks
